Homework: Copy in Planner

  • Due Wednesday 3/10/10 Study reading strategies and vocabulary for "Gift of the Magi" test on Wednesday
  • Due Wednesday 3/10/10 Complete The Apostrophe worksheet
    • DUE TODAY 3/9/10: Analyzing Literature p. 14 #1-15- Have out on your desk to get stamp for credit!

Agenda:


  1. Sign into the computer with your student ID to receive credit!
  2. Copy learning objectives and homework in your planner.
  3. Writing Section: 3/9/10 The Apostrophe- Review your contractions warm-up from yesterday. Read worksheet instructions as a whole class, then work in pairs with someone near you to complete The Apostrophe worksheet. Make sure to give it a page number and put in the writing section of your binder! (Mrs. S., stamp Analyzing Literature questions 1-15 while they are working)
  4. Review Analyzing Literature p. 14 #1-15: Have student volunteers share their responses to the questions on the Elmo. Review as whole class.
  5. Reading Section: 3/9/10 Theme Scene "Gift of the Magi"- Theme is the main idea that you get when you read a piece of literature; it can be a statement about life or human nature. The theme must be stated in a complete sentence, not just one word! In groups of four, discuss the theme of "The Gift of the Magi" and agree on a theme statement for your group. On your paper, write your theme statement across the top. Come up with a symbol or draw a scene from the story to represent your theme. Using the template , cite two quotes from the story that support your theme statement and explain them. Be prepared to present to the class.
  6. Reading Section: 3/9/10 Vocabulary Unclocking Meaning p. 16- Read the instructions and complete the practice exercise #1-5 if time.
