1. Big Question Vocabulary Practice
  • Take the practice quiz before you complete the Bell Ringer Journal

2. Bell Ringer Journal
  • You have 10 minutes to do this today, and less time to do this next time. Why?
  • In Google Docs, Click on "2-15-11 Bell Ringer Journal"
  • From there, click on the drop down menu and click "Create New" and "Document"
  • Give your document the appropriate heading in the upper right corner (use the align right button):
    • Your Name
    • Course title (English 1C)
    • My name
    • Today's date
  • And MOST IMPORTANTLY, give your document the appropriate title: "Last Name First Name Assignment Name"
    • Your prompt:
      • You have probably changed your opinions as you have grown older. Think about something you believed when you were younger that you no longer believe. In a paragraph that is at least 100 words, explain why you changed your mind. Use at least 3 vocabulary words from the Big Question vocabulary list.
    • The way you start:
      • When I was...................... I believed that.................
  • After 10 minutes, 2 or 3 students share their responses.

3. 2/15/11 Scan for Vocabulary "The Washwoman" pages 25-32 (LB)
  • Complete this in your notebook.
  • Review the procedure for scanning for vocabulary: Word/Easy English and/or Translation/ Synonym
  • Review the importance of scanning correctly.
  • Finish at home.

4. Before you Read "The Washwoman", page 17 (RN)
  • Mark in the margins:
    • What is a narrative essay? a significant detail? a prediction?
    • How do you verify predictions? ask questions?
  • At the bottom of the page: write/clarify the instructions for the graphic organizer. What are you supposed to do?

5. Making Connections "The Washwoman", page 18 (RN)
  • Complete the top half of the page.
  • Work in groups of 2-3.
  • Share responses with the class.

If time permits, work on SFV and your grammar book.
