Today's Homework Assignment:
  • Grammar Book pages 81-84
  • Complete a total of 25 Achievements from Achieve 3000 before next Tuesday.
    • You must score 65% or higher on the activity quiz (on the first try) to get credit for the reading.

  • Scan "The News" (pages 478-486) for vocabulary.
    • English > Easy English (maybe with some translation) > Synonyms

  • Grammar Book, through page 80

1. 4/26/11 Bell Ringer Journal
  • You have 15 minutes to do this today, and less time to do this next time.
  • In Google Docs, Click on "4/26/11 Bell Ringer Journal"
  • From there, click on the drop down menu and click "Create New" and "Document"
  • Give your document the appropriate heading in the upper left corner:
    • Your Name
    • Course title (English 1C)
    • My name
    • Today's date
  • And MOST IMPORTANTLY, give your document the appropriate title: "Last Name First Name Assignment Name"
    • Your prompt:
      • Last time we met, the teacher argued that the things you know and the things you understand are more important than your letter grade. What does that mean? Explain what the teacher means when he says "The things you know and the things you can do are more important than your grade in the class."
      • Also, do you agree or disagree with this idea? Explain your answer.
    • Your answer needs to be at least 100 words long.
  • Pair-share responses.

2. Character Traits Essay
  • I have read many of your updated essays, but I have not updated your rubrics. I will do this for Thursday's class and I will give you a grade update then (remember, what you learn is more important than your grade).
  • Essays have improved, but we haven't perfected this task, so we will write another Character traits essay about another story.
  • We will have less time to write this essay.
